"It's always important to periodically see what people think."Currently, the Pennsylvania Turnpike employs the Turnpike Roadway Information System, a service that travelers can access through a number of devices to receive information about roadways and travel conditions, Capone said."In our case, we provide real-time information, so travelers can plan out their trips," he said, adding that travelers can access this information via a mobile app, the turnpike website or by calling a toll-free number."There are a variety of ways you can access it," Capone said. "You can see whether there are traffic accidents, road work or whatever can impact travel."Similarly, PennDOT also offers a service for travelers looking for traffic information, PennDOT spokeswoman Erin Waters-Trasatt said.PennDOT's 511PA service offers information similar to the turnpike's system and is accessible through its website or mobile site."We have traffic information on most of the state's major roadways," she said.In addition to receiving roadway information, Waters-Trasatt said hundreds of traffic cameras also c迷你倉新蒲崗n be viewed on the sites. These cameras are in place to allow travelers to plan routes and observe traffic conditions before leaving their homes, she said."If they check the camera before they leave, they can alter their route if they see that it's choked up."Though both information systems seem to be working well, Waters-Trasatt said she realizes that there is always room for improvement, and travelers' expectations often change."With how technology is always changing, people's demands change like with mobile devices," she said. "We want to see what people's expectations are."So, to plan changes to the services to better suit traveler needs and expectations, a joint survey seemed like a good first step, Capone said."We've been doing a lot of joint programs with PennDOT, so we decided to do this joint survey to try to get some feedback."But in order to make appropriate changes, travelers who use these services will first need to voice their opinions through the survey, Capone said."We encourage people to take a few minutes to fill out the survey," he said. "Obviously, we put it on a prominent page of our website."While there is no specific end date, Waters-Trasatt said she hopes users will complete the survey as soon as possible."They will be up at least through the end of July," she said. "We really hope the public will help shape the future of travel information in the state."Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Tribune-Democrat (Johnstown, Pa.)
