Source: York Daily Record, Pa.迷你倉Jan. 05--West York senior Parker Weekly figured he had nothing to lose when he let go a long 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer of Saturday night's game at Northeastern."If I missed we were going to another overtime," Weekly said. "I knew the clock was under five seconds. I practice 3s all the time. I am just not the guy that takes them."Bulldogs' coach Bill Ackerman laughed at the suggestion that he called a play for the burly 6-foot-3 forward. In fact, he was trying to call a timeout.Regardless, on this night, Weekly was the right guy at the right time, as he swished the long-range bomb as the final buzzer went off giving West York a dramatic 53-50 come-from-behind win over the Bobcats."Yeah, we wanted Parker to shoot a 25-foot, fadeaway 3 at the end because he is so good at that," Ackerman said sarcastically. "It probably serves me right that I didn't get the timeout, because players make plays."The stunning victory helped the Bulldogs remain unbeaten, improving to 6-0 in the league and 11-0 overall.Reading this on a mobile device? Teammate Noah Cable hit a leaner with five seconds left in regulation, giving the Bulldogs their first lead since 12-10, only to have Northeastern freshman DeAireus Brown drive for a layup at the buzzer to send the teams to overtime.Bobcats sophomore Donovian Maxfield led his team with 14 points, and he hit one of his four 3-pointers early in the extra session for a 46-45 Northeastern lead. West York's Josh Bailey drained his only trey of the game, putting the Bulldogs back up 50-48, before Kobe Nwandu's two free throws tied the score five seconds later."It wasn't just Parker making that hero play," Ackerman said. "It was Josh hitting the big 3, Noah even getting us there. Chase (Neiderer文件倉 had a big hoop in overtime. I think that is a testament to our depth and our kids. I was proud of my guys."Despite controlling much of the game, the Bobcats fell to 2-3, 4-6. Northeastern played tough defense, forcing West York to miss several shots in the first half and outrebounded the Bulldogs, 36-28, for the game. After taking a 26-20 lead to intermission, Nick Sprenkle knocked down a jumper and Maxfield drained a 3-pointer giving the Bobcats a 31-20 lead three minutes into the second half."Northeastern is not what their record shows," Ackerman said. "They are going to be scary good. They are just young. We talked about both teams didn't have a win yet in 2014. It was just a matter of us getting a win against a good team at their place. We dodged a bullet. We didn't play well. We put ourselves in a hole."West York took advantage of an early fourth-quarter delay and regrouped while a recurring wet spot on the Northeastern gym floor was cleared up."We did not play our best," Rice said. "At that break, we were like, 'We can't keep playing like this.'"Reach Steve Navaroli at 771-2060.Reading this on a mobile device?
